What print options are available?

Print sizes, papers and other styles vary depending upon the individual image.  In general, most images are offered as open edition prints on Hahnemühle German Etching paper at either 8x10 or 8x12 print sizes.  In some cases larger print sizes are available.  Rarely, limited edition prints may be offered in either larger prints sizes or on different media. return to top

Why are some photographs offered as 8x10 and others as 8x12?

dSLR cameras capture images in a 2:3 format, making 8x12 a natural size.  As such, it's generally my preference to offer print sizes that maintain the 2:3 ratio so the image you receive most closely matches what I saw through the lens.  Occasionally, for composition reasons, I will offer print sizes in the 4:5 ratio, such as an 8x10.  If you are interested in a 4:5 ratio print of one of my images and it is not offered, feel free to contact me.  Please keep in mind that some of the image will need to be cropped in order to print to that ratio.  I will crop the image in the way that I feel best maintains the overall composition of the scene.  All non-thumbnail images in either the gallery or prints pages are presented in the ratio intended for print, either 2:3 or 4:5, so the composition you see is what you can expect from a print unless you make a custom request. return to top

What is Hahnemühle German Etching paper?

German Etching paper is velvety smooth with a fine surface texture that some describe as being similar in texture to watercolor paper. German Etching is one of the most popular media worldwide for artwork and photography.  It is a mould-made, archival quality paper with a matte finish.  If you would like to see more technical specifications for this paper, you can view Hahnemühle's datasheet by clicking here to view their PDF. return to top

Why aren't more photographs available for purchase as prints?  Will my print look like it does on your website?

Making images for display on the web is different from proofing images for printing.  I spend a considerable amount of time per image proofing and making minor adjustments to color and brightness in a color-managed environment to ensure that the finished print meets a high standard for quality.  Certain colors don't print as well as they display on a computer screen, and vice-versa.  As such, making all images in the gallery available for purchase as a print is a time-consuming, on-going process.  If there is an image in the gallery that you are interested in that's not currently available as a print, please contact me and I will make every effort to fulfill your request. Since every monitor and computer may render color differently and have a different brightness, it's difficult to promise that prints will match what you see on the computer screen 100%.  Different papers also absorb inks differently.  What I can say is that you will be very happy with the print quality and if you are dissatisfied for any reason, please contact me and I will make it right. return to top

How long does order processing take?

All prints are made to order and either drop-shipped from the printer to your door, or in the case of limited edition work, shipped directly from me to you.  Generally orders get processed within 1 business day and ship the following business day.  Special orders and requests take longer and processing times will vary by request.  If your request is time-sensitive, please let me know and I will provide a processing time estimate. return to top

What happens when my order ships?

Shipping times vary depending on carrier and destination, but you will be sent a tracking number once it becomes available.  Typically, orders ship the  following business day and most orders are shipped next day via FedEx.  Currently, shipping is limited to the United States and Canada. return to top
